Here at the Shalom House, our mission is to impact the people of Boone County by feeding our community and encouraging the spirit. Our vision is to feed our community so that one day, no one will ever experience hunger.
With your help and continued support, this grand vision can become a reality. Kids don’t have to be hungry anymore. Neighbors don’t have to be isolated from neighbors anymore. Our community is changing, and it’s changing for the better.
The Shalom House began serving meals in the old Stokes school in 2003. Three years later, Shalom House moved to the corner of West and Green streets at 304 W Green St., where it continues to serve meals today.
Come dine in with us on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 and on Saturdays from 11:00-1:00. Carry out meals are available on Tuesdays from 5:00-7:00 and Saturdays from 11:00-1:00. To pick up carry outs, just pull into the parking lot and meals will be brought to your car.
For too many kids in Boone county, the only meals they eat during the day are those provided at school. During school breaks, volunteers pack hundreds of sack lunches and distribute them to families with children.
These sacks contain enough food for a full week’s worth of lunches. As we strive to provide fresh, healthy food, our costs continue to rise. The cost to provide food for Boone County children is $3,000 to $5,000 per week.
